There are only four days until Christmas, and while many offices are winding down for the holidays, Applico’s penthouse office is buzzing and busier than ever. New faces are being introduced every day. In fact, three new employees joined just this week and six have joined since Thanksgiving. It’s defnitely an exciting time for our company as we prepare to close out 2011 and and break into the new year. We have a lot of exciting projects planned for 2012, but I think it’s best if we take a moment to reflect on 2011. A lot has changed since this time last year!

Applico started the year off at 116 East 16th Street (nearby Union Square) with around 15 employees. We quickly outgrew our first NYC office though, and in May 2011 we packed it in and moved to our new Gramercy office space at 220 East 23rd St. The new penthouse space provided Applico with more room and amenities, including a full kitchen and beautiful rooftop terrace.
The view isn’t bad either:
The growth wasn’t over yet. In September, with almost 30 employees, Applico expanded into the 5th floor in the same building. The 5th floor now houses our developers and project management team while account management, business development, marketing, HR and management occupy the penthouse.
Applico got an early gift this December when we were named the #1 Android Developer by BestWebDesignAgencies.com for the second consecutive year. Applico was also awarded 3rd place in iPhone Development and top ten for Blackberry. We look forward to improving our iPhone/BB rank in 2012 and hope to garner accommodations in the new-for-2012 Mobile Developer rankings for which we recently applied.
Applico was happy to work alongside brands like Bankrate, L’Occitane En Provence, PWC, the NOAA, Ryder and many others in 2011.
The Applico Holiday party, held at the Soho House, proved a memorable outing for everyone involved. One of the downsides of the rapid growth that Applico is experiencing is that it’s hard to get to know each new employee on a personal level. The holiday party was the perfect occasion for new and old employees alike to reach out and socialize with colleagues from different departments.
The economy might be shaky, the weather might be fierce and according to the Mayans, the world might just end in a few short months. Despite all of this, Applico is excited to help shape the mobile world as we move into 2012. Be on the lookout; we’ve got a lot of exciting developments planned for next year.
Applico wishes the absolute best to anyone who finds themselves reading this right now. Have a great holiday season and a fantastic new year.
