App Downloads Hit Record High in Last Week of 2011

Over 1.2 billion apps were downloaded in the last week of December 2011, marking a record high. The activation of millions of Christmas presents no doubt contributed to the surge. Nonetheless, Analytics firm Flurry, who published the initial report, expects weekly downloads to break 1 Billion on a regular basis in 2012.

Looking forward to 2012, Flurry expects breaking the one-billion-download-barrier per week will become more common-place. While iOS and Android growth continues to amaze, the market is still by all measures relatively nascent.
