Applico’s Head of Platform Nick Johnson has been generating a lot of buzz in the media lately. Within a few weeks of the PokemonGO app’s release, Nick has become the first person to catch every Pokemon available in the United States. After posting an image on Reddit joking about his accomplishment, Nick woke up the next morning to find out his post went viral and he had officially become the first publicly-announced “Pokemon Master.”
This was no easy journey for Nick. Spending most of the day at work, Nick was unable to start his Pokemon conquests until about 6PM. He would spend roughly six hours walking around New York City catching Pokemon, hatching eggs, and interacting with other PokemonGO users. During the process of collecting all 142 Pokemon, Nick walked an average of eight miles a day (according to his Apple Health app) and lost 8-10 pounds. He admitted to spending only a couple hundred dollars on the game, which is nothing compared to the rewards and recognition he is receiving because of this success.
Nick has been featured on Rolling Stones, CNN, Good Morning America, CBS, Business Insider, USA Today, and much more. He recently announced that he is pairing up with Marriott Rewards, who will be sponsoring his world-tour to catch the rest of the region-locked Pokemon and truly complete his Pokedex. Within the next few days, Nick will embark on the next chapter of his Pokemon journey, traveling to Europe, Asia, and Australia.
